RMA Sandhurst

An association that goes back to 1914 and continued for many many years and only last year was resurrected – the annual match between these two famous institutions CHGC & RMAS.

This year we intend to have two meetings – (Home) St Georges Day April 23 was the first, in which we had great match and drew with RMAS.

The next meeting (Date to be set – away) will be held at CHGC, but dinner will be served in the Officers Mess at RMAS.

To say that the RMAS do not take their golf seriously, is to underestimate the British Army, their officers and their desire to win! The teams were 8 strong and if I tell you that on the morning of the match, two of the playing officers were specially flown in from Germany to play, and that evening were flown back to Germany, no doubt to face a Court Martial for not winning!

The day’s weather was great, warm & sunny, the course was in very good condition, the CHGC team of athletes were ready – RMAS arrived and all I will say is that there was not an ounce of fat on any of them (PTA instructors fit buggers!) already we were in trouble – but like the RMAS guys we do not take defeat lying down despite the fact that Captain Rick (4 H/C) of the RMAS team eagled both the 3 & 15 with effortless ease. Outstanding performance from Wally, Chuck, Ron & John who all got wins – even more outstanding effort from The Captain & Mike to stop the onslaught from the “eagle boys” to lose 2&1 and as for Neil & Richard ……………. well we booked them lessons with Ralphie.

Well done the CHGC team – we look forward to the next round with the competition finely balanced.
