Captains Diary

Captains Diary – April – May 09

Another quiet month which started with Easter at Whittlebury Hall for a Spa weekend and golf – later that week dinner in the Teppan Yaki restaurant for 10 persons – can I recommend this to all our members, a much underused facility which is worthy of a visit.

Young Charlie’s Saturday greedy was the next item on the agenda great playing with all the youngsters on a Saturday – couldn’t make the evening due to a theatre engagement with the famous “Gang Show” now in it’s 60 plus year, however paid the forfeit of Port for all, great day many thanks Charlie, got the next in the diary.

Played Swinley Forest against the Brewers – as usual never saw a member great course, even better food.

This week we also played the new annual home/away Match against Sandhurst Academy – draw was a good result – well done the team and Neil Johnstone.

Then on to the CHGC 4 day annual tour, this time in Bournemouth – see separate report, but well done Adrian Hart – great organisation.

Returned in time for the Father & Son Match which was won by the “Fletchers” this important event will be made into a “Board” event posted for all to see, includes all past winners for the last 30 odd years?

Bramley match, captained by Bill Onions in my absence, never an easy match to win, however one of our matches was won, well done all the team – I was playing in the defence of the LING Trophy against Hersham GC, (who got loads of shots) but we managed to beat them, well done John Towlson our team captain. The scariest moment of the match was the pre briefing by Richard B – if we lost our match the consequences would be dire!!! Needless to say my partner & I played with our usual magnificent game and won our match – whew!

Great performance by the Surrey 5’s A&B team, Keith & Wally, especially at Wentworth – well done guys keep up the excellent work.

The John Keep Salver/Foursomes comp was a brilliant day, but very tough – next year I hope my partner “Last Chance Manhood” turns up!

Last week went on another 4 day tour to Bournemouth with the “Drabble Rabble Tour” and played a truly outstanding course called Remedy Oak which I have recommended to our Team Leader Adrian for inclusion in the CHGC Tour, if we go there next year.

During this away tour I returned for the Past Captains Dinner – great evening and we managed to work out that out of 96 Captains to date only 27 survive! Must go and see the doctor —— soon.

Captains Day all systems are go – busy busy day.
Triangular Match – Early Bird and volunteers for the Sunningdale Seniors Open are next on the Agenda.

Juniors – looking forward to the Surrey under 15/16 championships next Tuesday.

Geoff Rout

Captain
