First and foremost, can I say thank you to all the members and your guests for making this a memorable and most successful Men’s Dinner. The numbers attending, despite the economic gloom, were a compliment to you all and especially the people tasked with organising the event, it makes their efforts worth while and appreciated.

So to the evening itself, It started with the Sermon on the Mount by Chris Stone who clearly worked hard to provide the perfect balance to brevity and humour, followed by the introduction of Haley, The Captains Hand Maiden, entertaining all the members and guests with her service & raffle skills plus her fantastic assets, the quality of bread and its ‘design’ was especially appreciated, the service of the Food, Wine and Drinks by Jacques and his staff was well organized. The Toasts were going well and then Wally’s toast to the guests was the unexpected highlight of the evening, memorably short and to the point. The Charity Raffle by Mike, Ralphie, Fozzy and Neil raised almost a £1000, a fantastic sum and it goes without saying that I am most grateful for your generosity, the Charity Chase and CHGC Centenary Fund will both share in this wonderful windfall.

A special mention for the Guest Speaker Aaron James, who we are all agreed was excellent and didn’t need to swear to be funny, he gave an outstanding performance and his support of the Raffle and our other money raising activity was brilliant.

The evening (for some) ended about midnight and I think all members and their guests arrive home safely, for others in went on into the wee small hours of the morning but those who had arranged to play in the Saturday Morning Dinner Challenge arrived, but very worse for wear!

The Challenge Trophy was won by Aaron & Kelvin with a net 60, playing a two ball Texas Scramble, followed closely by a number of 61’s. In total 30 plus turned out for the golf played in glorious sunshine.

1st place – Net 60 – Aaron Wilde + Kelvin Edmundson Winners of the Dinner Challenge Cup

2nd place – Net 61 – John Cranham + Colin Waite (net 31 on back nine)

3rd place – Net 61 – Geoff Rout + Glenn Ralph (net 29 1/2 on back nine)

4th place – Net 61 – Colin Bradford + Stuart Foster (net 29 0n back nine)
