Saturday Afternoon Greedy – Captain’s Report
Posted by adminSaturday 19 September
Unlike my organisation of the following day (Ladies v Men) this was a thoroughly well organised and efficiently run “greedy” and my second invitation to join and play with an excellent group of members who play on Saturday.
Young Charlie Reed never ceases to amaze me and I fully intend to strive to be not only as fit and able he is at 80 plus, but also just as good looking and humorous. With great respect and a little tongue in cheek he manages to keep “his boys” in check, with a little chastisement (much better word on the WEB than B——–g!) and a lot of comedy.
A day none the less (one of three annual comps) that is taken very seriously, and a hard fought battle ensued with tough competition for the top spot. Not only are you playing for the glory of the day, but also to maintain those oh! so important averages for the year end major trophy.
In the end the day was won by Andy Wood with an outstanding 40 points and a close second on count back was Alan Bute, however I am told only because some of the major players, Keith Manhood and John Grice were absent, but then had John played the day might have gone into Sunday!!
The evening meal and prize presentation were excellent and this is where you realise that the efficiency and well oiled machinery comes into its own, John Callender the power behind the throne produced an impressive array of facts figures and winning scores (why is this man not on the committee?) The trophy and prizes duly presented, our host Charlie got to his feet & gave a short speech (short for Charlie anyway) accompanied by some very amusing barracking from the ensemble.
I have to say it was a very enjoyable day in the company of some very agreeable members and for me it was privilege to be invited as a guest to this very entertaining event – my thanks to you all and I look forward to the next one on Saturday 5 December.

Thanks Captain for another excellent report.
I’m sure you will always be welcome …. and thanks again for the bottle of Port you so kindly shared with us.
Dave
Ps Drew Morris should also be commended for his 3rd ‘hole in one’ on the 2nd… not bad for a 12 handicap !
